Samuel Doane and Henry Burnett of General Electric patented a "tipless" lamp in 1894. About twelve years later GE began marketing incandescent lamps under the Meridian name. Meridian lamps were globe shaped and usually bowl frosted. The manufacturing process was quite difficult and by about 1910 Meridian lamps were dropped in favor more efficient tungsten filament lamps19. This particular lamp is interesting in that it shares the same tipless construction as the larger Meridian lamp but in a much smaller colored glass envelope. The paper label in the stem contains the familiar GE meatball logo. |
